- If I am understanding your question properly, it's because a wholesaler usually has a minimum order requirement and also because retailers need larger amounts of product at a single time. Wholesalers work with retailers because retailers have to wait for a return on their investment. So, in order to gain more business from prospective retailers they offer credit terms as they know the nature of retail and know it's an incentive for most retail business owners.
