Ebay Business?

I am in the process of setting up a small business on eBay. I am planning to open a featured eBay Store in which I sell consumer electronics. I was wondering what my business checklist should look like, including the legal aspect such as licenses, permits, and incorporation. I am incorporating in the state of Massachusetts. Thanks a lot.

  1. Good day to you, Go to http://www.ourcoolbiz.com and you will find a powersellers toolkit for e-bay there. We got it and its great. I hope this helps you out.
  2. If you have questions concerning a small business the best place to look on the website of sba.gov, and, the best place to take short courses is thru the Small Business Administration in your area. The course isn't that expensive and is short term, but discusses licenses, permits, incorporation, taxes, etc. No matter what business you start you need to do your five-year plan (you'll see how to do it on sba.gov). So call them and ask that they send you their brochures/pamphlets and information. They will send you a calendar which lists which day the courses are on (and times). When you go to the course take a few business cards with you to pass out as you will be networking.
  3. Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website. 4. Good question. Try this site.
  5. There is some useful tips on using Ebay here.
  6. eBay is the largest online marketplace and one of the most popular ways to earn an income from home with a PC and internet connection. Selling on eBay is inexpensive and easy to start. Ebay has a number of tools for sellers to maximise sales. These are eBay Pulse, Hot items report, merchandising calendar. By sourcing products at a low price, you can increase your profit. 7. Here are some checklist you will need: LEGAL 1. Employer's Identification Number (EIN). Go to the IRS website to get your EIN http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html 2. Legal form of your business. Incorporate, form a limited liability company, or file a statement of partnership if not a sole proprietorship 3. If needed, obtain seller's permit - also known as Certificate of Authority or Resale Certificate. Get a resale tax certification or state sellers permit if the operation will involve purchasing items for resale. This exempts the business from paying sales tax on some of its purchases. 4. Obtain any trademarks, copyrights, and patents as needed. 6. 5. Acquire zoning approval, if necessary. Zoning ordinances regulate how property can be used. If you are living in a townhouse community or apartment, be careful in terms of notifying neighbors you have a business (and monitor the comings and goings of the UPS/Fedex man) as operating a business may not be allowed 6. Register your business name if using a name other than your own or a variation of your name. Check with the county clerk locally, and the secretary of state nationwide to determine if a certain name is legally clear. EBAY SELLING 1. Read ebay guidelines and ebay resources 2. Decide on how you will create your listing. If you will do it yourself, invest in an HTML program such as MS Frontpage. Or you can use eBay's tools to create listings 3. Decide on auction management software. Example is Timbercreeksoftware's Sold! auction management tool http://www.timbercreeksoftware.com/pages/soldmatrix.asp . Using a tool can make it easy for you to track items to list and relist, set the listing time, track customers, track status of payments and delivery, and prepare reports 4. Line up suppliers for packaging and shipping supplies - I suggest Overstock Business services because shipping is a flat rate of $2.99 even if you are buying a big box of envelopes
