Can you still make money with an Ebay business?

I'm a former Ebayer who sold for about a year on the site, which I loved doing. However, even though my sales were decent (around $5,000/month in home electronics), my actual profits were extremely thin or non-existent because of the fierce competition (this was about 2 years ago). I'm starting law school next summer, and I want to set up a viable business that will help me avoid a job in my first year of classes. Is it still possible to make legitimate, consistent profits with an Ebay business, or has competition pretty much done away with that? *** I only want to hear from people with Ebay experience, who can directly answer my question. I don't mean to be a jerk, but I don't want anybody promoting online or home-based businesses on my question. If you do, I'll report you.

You need to carve out a specific niche. Something you know much about, enjoy, perhaps as a hobby and turn into a profitable business. The competition is fierce but if you can carve out an unsatisfied niche, you will make money.
